Did you know the CSIRO in Australia created some of the world’s roundest and smoothest objects: ultra-precise silicon spheres for the International Avogadro Project. These spheres are so smooth that if you scaled them up to the size of the Earth, the highest ripple in their smoothness would be just 12–15 mm, with a roundness variation of only 3–5 metres.
