Steam Next Fest is back, so here’s a selection of demos the GI Editors have been digging the most.
My favorite demo this time around has been Sting & Swing. Bee golf is a cursed concept somehow turned into an Animal Well esque game.
This looks fun!
I played a demo for a game called FISH which is a 2D run and gun, it’s one of the most insane things I’ve played. Highly recommended to people who love silly and surreal games.
I liked the meta humor with sound files from super Mario world and mother 3 even going into boss fights.
Thats not silly, thats fucking dumb lmao
Some people just don’t get real art…
This article leaves out Order of the Sinking Star, a sokoban-style puzzler from the Braid/Witness designer.
How is it? I loved Braid but found The Witness a little pretentious honestly, not sure if I have time to try the demo soon.
This doesn’t have the pretentious stuff of Witness.
It’s a sokoban game, so it’s a grid-based puzzler about moving stuff around to get to an exit. It has a bunch of characters, each with distinct mechanics. It gets really interesting when you have multiple characters in play at once, requiring you to mix their abilities.
So far, it looks to be one of the best of that genre, though it’s hard to tell how it will be later in the game.
I guess we’ll piggyback on this thread for demo recommendations.
The only demo I was wowed by so far was Project TurboBlast, which is the racing game I’ve wanted since F-Zero GX, with some CTR drifting mixed in. The biggest problem for me is the lack of split-screen multiplayer, but at least it lists the LAN tag. Something like Aero GPX in early access has everything but the online multiplayer, and this one has everything but the split-screen. Still, I’d recommend it.
