    Contrast this with the Heathcliff comics, which show that rascal making a garbage smorgasbord by rolling the can like a lumberjack on a floating log, whereas in Garfield the transgression of the cat is left to the imagination of the reader. The effect Jim Davis creates is therefore a more sophisticated one, as in certain horror films where less of the monster is shown — sometimes not at all! The monster in the viewers imagination is far more frightening than any rubber suit the film maker could concoct. Indeed many scholars have attributed principles such as this to the enduring legacy of Garf
