It’s a fire prevention thing to keep doors closed, if a fire breaks out when you’re asleep it really can make the difference in you surviving it. But, the cats aren’t going to let me do that, so we all go down together.
But that is why here in Belgium it is mandated that doors have a minimum gap for ventilation while also keeping the door closed and also outside ventilation
Is there data to support this? I imagine if a fire breaks out in an apartment and I don’t wake up in time, I’m fucked anyway. Hopefully smoke detectors in all rooms will do their job.
I mean, instead of asking for information you want, you could just go look for it. Maybe clicking this link and even reading a touch won’t be too difficult? Not trying to be an ass, but it took seconds. https://www.bhg.com/sleep-with-bedroom-door-shut-11888160
Because usually people looking for DATA would use the internet search function, NOT expect verbal responses which DO NOT constitute data
I dont understand all the idiots downvoting you because I wouldve done the same thing
You want data, search the web
You want anectdotes, talk on a forum
Its annoying when people expect to be spoonfed credible data on a forum rather than taking 5 seconds to find it themselves (and sharing it, imagine that, fucking utopic) instead of someone else spending double that time finding it and writing a comment with sources in reply (thats called spoonfeeding)
It blows my mind that people will take safety advice from a random comment, question it, and expect another random comment to clarify for them, especially in a platform as small as Lemmy. It’s so alien a thought process to me that I can’t understand it, but it makes it easier to see how misinformation spreads so easily.

I don’t see a request for feedback. I see someone asking for data from a commenter, saying they were probably fucked either way, and hoping smoke detectors would help. The only request was for supporting data, and why would you trust “data” from a random commenter?
Are you asking for anecdotes or information? Because it would’ve taken less time for you to search than for me to search, write a comment, and post a link. Why are you on the internet if you want other people to read for you? Good on you to attack me for your laziness.
Bro, no one was attacking here until you rolled up and attacked. You weren’t even the person they responded to. You could’ve said and done nothing and no one would have ever known or cared. Instead, you decided to cause a scene.
Does it help? Normally you need to open windows on (preferably) different sides of the building, otherwise the air hardly moves. If a door closed, the movement is blocked.
I don’t live in a climate that supports that. My cat can come and go as she pleases. My other cat won’t come in at night because it’s not his territory.
is this about airflow? that really is valid, people don’t get enough fresh air inside imo.
about the cats, yeah, they definitely deserve a spot next to you.
edit: i checked and yes it’s about co2 buildup. keep the air moving, open that door.
I would like to but damn those birds are loud starting from 4am
Omg, the mocking birds here are insane. I wake up early naturally, but those motherfuckers are SO LOUD they wake me up even earlier.
I have a book recommendation for you
Experts: open their cage door too and this problem will resolve itself
No, I mean the birds outside. I need to dut my windows and my door not to hear them
Just use Teflon cookware.

Fire likes oxygen. As it turns out, so do lungs.
That’s what the smoke detectors are for. They are mandatory where I live.

Yes

Bro literally asks for “data to support this”
So I guess they wanted someone to say
And thats it

But hey here comes the airplane I guess

“Hey, you seem to know something about this, is there anything specific I can look for to learn more instead of starting from zero?”
I searched “fire safety bedroom door shut” so I don’t think they really needed any help.
They also had thoughts about it that they wanted feedback on.

Why are you on an online forum if communicating with other people is such a burden for you? lol
I hate when people say Google it bro we’re here to interact with each other and pass knowledge
I hate when people ask others to look it up for them.
Are you asking for anecdotes or information? Because it would’ve taken less time for you to search than for me to search, write a comment, and post a link. Why are you on the internet if you want other people to read for you? Good on you to attack me for your laziness.
I think they were looking for a conversation. If saving time is the goal, we wouldn’t be here in the first place.
Bro, no one was attacking here until you rolled up and attacked. You weren’t even the person they responded to. You could’ve said and done nothing and no one would have ever known or cared. Instead, you decided to cause a scene.
Quite the scene too, expecting someone to read a little in this day and age instead of skim comments online and take it as fact.
Whoosh
They weren’t asking you to search, they were asking if
youthe person they responded to knew anything off the top ofyourtheir head.I also explained my viewpoint and expected to hear what they think, i.e. tried to have a normal conversation. But we’re on the internet, so yeah…
I just keep my window open. Unless it rains, then it’s closed.
Does it help? Normally you need to open windows on (preferably) different sides of the building, otherwise the air hardly moves. If a door closed, the movement is blocked.
Wouldn’t you still get some airflow through convection ?
Also osmosis, regarding the CO2 concentration of the air.
Wouldn’t it be the same case if you just have the bedroom door open? Like if just the door is open with no windows open.
Not if you have a central ventilation system.
You could just sleep with the window open, rather than having the cat jump on your belly at 3am waking you up and scaring the hell out of you.
I don’t live in a climate that supports that. My cat can come and go as she pleases. My other cat won’t come in at night because it’s not his territory.
Yeah, getting a good air quality monitor has made me understand the value of open windows. The co2 levels are so much higher with the windows closed
My window faces a busy road. Air quality is definitely way better with the window closed.
If you have a purifier, otherwhise it’s the same no?
Dust can settle and gasses can condense on their way to their apartment if it doesn’t have an easy way in.
why not both? both is good.
