Today’s game is one called Metal Garden. I saw it on the steam front page, and against my better judgement I bought it completely blind.

Surprisingly I’m enjoying it. The only way I can think to describe it is how Fallout New Vegas felt to me when I was younger. I have little blips of memories not of the funny moments, but the almost eerie alone moments that the game had. Being alone in an abandoned mega structure, crossing the Lake and fighting off fire ants. Those were the vibes I got when I was little and it’s the same thing this game gives off.

Gameplay wise it’s different though. It’s almost Arena Shooter feeling. I feel like I’m more often jumping around and unloading rounds into enemies while Ammo is still rare. Honestly it’s an interesting combo. With how it is, contrasting like that is almost cool. For such a lonely feeling world you wouldn’t expect it to feel high energy.

The game does feel unfair a little with its checkpoints though. I got sent back a solid 10 minutes with my first death. Granted those minutes were partly caused by me being lost but still. Quit a bit of a setback. I think I’d have preferred if it was a little more forgiving.

Overall I really like the game. It’s pretty and It plays well. I think it’s pretty short but I hadn’t reached the end so I can’t say for sure. I had wanted to take a break from all my bigger company games and try this littler one I saw, so it’s nice to take the time to appreciate something like this.

Metal Garden was great. It’s short and mysterious with fine gameplay and weapon feel. Plus, I’m a sucker for a megastructure with an unknown past.
