Lemmy hates billionaires but never hesitates to kneel at the altar of Gaben.

probably has something to do with the fact that he doesn’t inject himself into the obliteration of world democracies, doesn’t actively supports hate, and he doesn’t rape children.

He also has the financial means to solve a lot of serious problems in the world that could save many lives.

But, you know, why spend that money on humanitarian causes when you can just buy a 6th environment-killing superyacht, because the first 5 weren’t enough?

There is no such thing as a good billionaire. Gabe Newell is no exception, even if he’s less overtly evil than others.

It’s not about whether or not he has other philanthropic activities.

It’s about the fact that he thinks it’s okay to spend a billion dollars on just boats.

I’m confused. Is this supposed to be your idea of a witty comeback because you took criticism of a billionaire personally, and now just want to belittle others to feel better about yourself?

I take nothing personally from idiotic comments on the internet.

All I was doing was drawing a correlation between how a rich man spends his money and how a poor man spends his money. both spend it just the same except one has more to show for it.

are you jealous of the big yachts rich men have compared to your little dinghy? let me impart some wisdom on you, jealousy is a lubricant to keep you in the pit you find yourself in. don’t use it when someone hands you a bottle.

So because he’s nice now we give him the benefit of the doubt? You guys will cry no good billionaires but kiss his ass because you like his platform?

IDK what your problem is dude. Just because the guy is rich we should treat him like he’s an evil shitlord?

I guess in that same vein of logic it’s alright if I start calling you a pedophile because you’re probably a while male between the ages of 25-45.

is that alright with you, pedophile?

(Not the previous poster) The real issue is that pretty much as always when this comes up, nobody is really defending Gaben. But to some people, just pointing out that something isn’t quite logical or true, is the same as “giving them the benefit of the doubt”, because it’s doesn’t meet their sky high criteria of negativity for the subject.

The truth doesn’t matter to them, but how negative you are about it. If you’re not personally crafting the guillotine for Gaben, you are a fanboy. It’s frustrating, since I do think we all agree at the end of the day that Gabe should be held to high standards due to his wealth, and he should face incredibly scrutiny if he should tilt.

agreed. wealth comes with a whole set of responsibilities just like if a person becomes a celebrity.

IMO he’s just a dude running a business and as long as he’s following the laws and paying his fair share of taxes, I can’t ask for more. I can’t ask for more because that’s all I expect out of myself.

would I like to be as rich as he is? sure! would I be more philanthropic with my wealth? I’d like to think so. I would also do so anonymously, because true charity is faceless and is undeserving of publicity. could be Gabe does something similar.

my point is, I can support him not because I’m a fanboy. I support him because the bar is set so low for wealthy individuals that simply existing without being a power hungry piece of shit pedophile is enough.
