Mine has a setting for sound off, which is great because it is a horrific loud beep, three times that doesn’t stop even if you try to interrupt it with a button or by opening the door. Anytime we have a power outage, it resets and I turn that damn beep off before I even change the clock because it annoys me so much.

After a power outage, my microwave absolutely refuses to do anything until I set the time. As if it’s a clock that also happens to have the ability to cook food, and not the other way around.
mine is this way as well. it will count inputs as setting the clock and if you put an invalid time in has a hissy fit and isn’t clear what it is asking of you. The amount of times my grandfather has tried to use it after losing power and got frusterated because he was trying to cook something and the clock wanted to set the time as something stupid like 30:22 or something like that is annoying.
Even an analog switch on the back would be simple and easy to add.
I know a lot of them do have ways to turn sound off. But many don’t. And a simple switch on the backside would make things so much easier.

THIS NEEDS TO BE MAINSTREAM.
There is very little reason that with the digital behemoths that microwaves are now, that a simple “sound off” setting can’t be done.
I would also love a “sound off for this cycle” option, but that might be being too needy

Most microwaves already have this feature, it’s just not obvious how to use it. Read your microwave’s user manual.
mine has a way to change the clock to 24h and the ability to calibrate the hot keys, but sadly doesn’t seem to have a sound control.
Well, time to disassemble it (safely discharge the capacitors!), find the beeper on the control board, and de-solder it.
