While i know this is just a shitpost, i cant help but remember, in nearly all english speaking countries and excluding the few countries with no regulations, businesses must offer customers a restroom if they have a dining area… The reason is hygenic as much as biologically imperative…

There is no rules that state they cant /charge/ for restroom access however (EG: they have to buy food, meaning there is a method of tracking who went in by timestamp). Most businesses could avoid this with putting smart entry locks on the door, that scan a barcode on the reciept and every hour, having a shift manager check and log the state of the restroom to manage the cleanliness.

but thats money most businesses dont want to spend away from the primary income source. smh… its almost like “preventive” anything is a scare word to business owners.

In my experience, these signs are the same as “Restroom is for customers only.” Public means just coming in to use the restroom then leaving.

NYC has local laws that if you have less than 20 seats, you don’t need to provide bathrooms. And because it’s on the books and not rare, the businesses don’t suffer all that much from it.

Honestly, doing my best to hold back the incoming splatter while desperately trying to scan the crinkled-up receipt that I haphazardly stuffed in my pocket on the way to the bathroom because I didn’t think it was important sounds like such a traumatizing experience that I’d probably never eat there again, and would be a lot more likely to result in the mess that caused the policy in the first place.

You can’t shit because your phone battery died. I can’t shit because my social credit store is too low. We are not the same

Anyways disabling public restroom locks is praxis, every bit as much as grinding the spikes off of anti-homeless benches. I have way more sympathy for the poor bastard trying to clean themselves in there than the mildly inconvenienced pricks with better options
