    I agree they’d probably be shocked but I honestly don’t know if that would be enough to motivate them to do something about it.

    The Flock pushback isn’t about the surveillance for most. It’s a NIMBY problem.

    The data center backlash is the same. They don’t want it in their town. They don’t care if it’s regulated or not so long as it’s not them dealing with the consequences (air pollution, imminent domain seizure of property, noise pollution, higher prices for utilities etc).

    This is why campaigns against them aren’t national and organized. This is why they haven’t started a lobby group to petition the federal government to do anything to regulate them. They think they can nip this in the bud for their town and it’ll be good enough.
