Not knowing you’ve been given drugs is a good start. The one and only time I ever did acid, my cousin put it in something and didn’t tell me until I started feeling like I was drowning and seeing everything swirling/melting. I thought I was poisoned.

If you know what you’re getting into and have an environment and situation set up for it then it’s a blast, and having sailed those seas if I got slipped LSD now I think I’d be able to put things together and be fine, maybe even enjoy it, but if I didn’t know what was happening and didn’t know how to navigate those waters then I could see panic taking the wheel. The craziest thing was that he was one of the 3 kids my super christian aunt adopted. I never expected him to be into raves and drugs before that incident, since he was always volunteering to do churchy stuff and talked about wanting to be a pastor.
