tldr people are disappointed with the new class, but I think it’s really cool, and I’m excited to play it

The long part
I know a lot of people are disappointed with the new class being a generic ganger, instead of Skitarii or basically any of the 40000 other very cool fully fleshed out factions to be found in the universe. And there’s no arguing that, really. From a character design perspective, this class is a joke.
That being said, from a game design perspective, I really think the Scum is going to put on quite a show. There’s a dev blog talking about the class’s kit. One Blitz is a rocket launcher, another one is a blinding grenade that recharges when they kill an enemy, they can make their own fully custom Stimm, and maybe dual wielding won’t be total cheeks!
I’m pretty new to this game (less than 100 hours), so I don’t really have any expectations, and I think that empty cup perspective is why I wasn’t as completely heartbroken as most of the more invested people. The comments on the trailer on YouTube are hilarious tho. Like I said, I’m pretty new, but I’ve really been loving this game, so seeing the reaction to the new class is making me sad, and I want to foster a little positivity. Any Darktide gamers in the house wanna throw their two cents in?

It looks really interesting! Not sure if that’s going to be a week one purchase like the Arbites was, I’ll take a look at it once it’s proper released and I play some games with them as allies.

I haven’t picked up the Arbites yet, but there’s strong odds I snag the Scum right away. The mechanics on offer are so interesting and unique. Maybe I’ll be your ally some time so I can show you it’s features!

Yeah I think it’s cool too, used to love Confrontation and Necromunda, had no interest in Scitari.

From the sounds of the Dev blog the character build options are really interesting, so I’m optimistically looking forward to it.

For me i just really don’t like the madmax style anarchy aesthetic, darktide wholesale appeals less to me than vermintide did on multiple levels even though its mechanically more balanced and fulfilling. I’m sure the new class will be fun to actually play, the game design team generally doesn’t disapoint.

Being able to take multiple of the same class is also nice. One thing that was annoying in vermintide is if you’re playing with friends and two or more people want to play the same character (Bardin and Saltzpyre were common for us).

Hive scum seem very disposable, so I think it’s a good fit. All depends on how the skill tree pans out though. 500+ hours in and enjoying it still.

This is a good point. Another point I saw in an argument in the trailer comments. One person said there’s no way a generic ganger from a no-name faction would be able to hold a candle to the endless hordes and monstrosities crawling around Tertium. The counterpoint, which I really liked, said that if anyone there could stand against them, and be free of Chaotic influence, the Inquisition would be quite keen to bring them into the fold. A cool way to look at it.

Admittedly I’m not versed in 40k lore at all, so as for lore fitment I got no clue. I’m just going by vibes. Former prisoners in the grinder is the gist I’m getting about who I’m playing. (I’m guessing the arbites class are disposable inquisition people)
