He’s focusing so hard on his themes being timeless that he’s no longer challenging the audience. Which is why they’re only winning visual art Oscars.

    People love to shit on these movies, but they’re entertaining and beautiful, and I’d take them over any Marvel movie I can think of.

      Beautiful? Definitely.
      Entertaining? Maybe the first time.
      Better than any marvel movie you can think of?
      Probably, as long as you dont think about
      iron man 1. but thats also not a high bar to clear.

      I don’t find them entertaining.

      I’ll grant you the artwork going in to them is wonderfully done, the cinematography is better than the marvel movies but that’s a frighteningly low bar. But the storytelling, character development, and you know, movie part of the avatar movies is a boring slog.

          Weirdly enough, that has been my biggest issue with both. The military is portrayed so over the top, that it’s laughable.

          I get it, military bad, natives good, I’m totally on board with that, but give them some nuance!
