It’s very easy to believe “oh, if I were raped I would fight back and if it still happened I would report it.” It’s only after something like that happens that a person thinks “hmm, there were drugs involved, I don’t know if I want to report this. I had a chance after my clothes were taken off at one point to run out of the place naked and screaming and didn’t… how do I explain that? I’ve always hated mass incarceration and police… do I really want to be a part of reporting something? I tried to push the person off at first, but then I fell asleep after it happened because I didn’t want to drive while intoxicated.” I don’t know if it’s actually malicious when people don’t believe victims; it’s just people can’t envision not reporting things immediately.
