Every single person’s reaction to mind altering substances is different and unpredictable, because each person’s neurochemistry is unique and not currently well-quantified. What might affect you deeply could literally have the opposite effect on me just because my brain is wired differently. This is why multiple different mind-altering substance prescriptions have to be tested to treat things like anxiety and depression. The same dose of the same strain of marijuana will have vastly different effects on even a small sample of people, and expecting someone who’s trying any drug for the first time to just “google it” as a matter of policy is not just delusionally naïve, but potentially dangerous to the point of negligence.
I don’t give a shit about Google or whatever “save the kids” bullshit y’all are on, marijuana has been sitting firmly at a kill count of zero for the entirety of history despite our best efforts to make it more potent, until that changes I will continue to not give a shit. It is the psychoactive substance least deserving of restrictive regulation, there are a million more important things to worry about.

Anxiety medications and SSRIs are regulated because they are mind-altering, and they’re all required to come with warnings that fucking with the brain chemistry of children has a proven tendency of causing suicidal ideation. The reason we regulate alcohol isn’t because drinking a gallon of everclear will kill you, it’s because it’s mind-altering, seriously affects your judgement, is highly addictive, habit-forming, and has long-lasting deleterious effects on the brains of children. Even amphetamines, which are prescribed to children for ADHD, are regulated because while they have medicinal properties for certain brain chemistries, but in others lead to addiction and other deleterious effects. Psilocybin and LSD are regulated because they are hallucinogenic. Fuck off with that “if it doesn’t kill you” bullshit. If something’s regulated or banned, the reason is far more likely to have fuck all to do with its LD50 than it does with the fact that “it fucks with brain chemistry in ways that are unpredictable and can have long-lasting effects from overuse”.
