I don’t have my entire library downloaded to disk and a few things don’t even work offline. I’ve even been logged out of steam after not playing for a year and that required an internet connection. Without it, it wasn’t even possible to see my library.

How many people do you think have downloaded their entire game library? Will they be able to go to the publisher and say “I bought your game on steam, give me a copy”? How many games would continue working after stream goes down (especially online ones)? How do you install individual games you backed up to other computers and other people’s game library?

I’m one of the people that appreciates Steam, but doesn’t trust it because their good will can disappear at the drop of a cent. There’s no guarantee they can’t and won’t go evil.

They don’t want to moderate the rampant Nazis in their forum and games you “buy” are just actually loans. If steam shuts down today, every game you bought is gone. So I’m taking precautions and buying from stores that do provide games without DRM.

Steam isn’t perfect and won’t ever be. It’s pretty, but won’t always be. I can criticise the bad parts because I’m not some fanboy cuck.

Trump was an amazing influence on China. He forced them to rely less on foreign forces and develop more of their own tech at a faster speed. In doing so, he also forced competition outside of China. The war on Ukraine then also brought the EU into the sovereignty mix.

Now that China is catching up, the EU and the US are forced to actually try and keep their lead in certain tech.

Now, if only China dropped Macroslop and other US big tech entirely to invest in Linux and RISCV… If they released a real linux phone (not android) that didn’t depend on the goofy store, it would kick start something amazing.

I remember reading about analog neural circuits somewhere but wasn’t aware this was what the author was referring to. He just went around in circles describing how they were used.

That isn’t the difference the author is describing. They are talking about discrete vs continuous and bring it up a number of times. That is a fundamental difference in operation. Nowhere does it state how this is achieved. A neural network? LLM? Some advanced stochastic model? What?

I don’t see how they are different. Their uses, yes, but the fundamentals look the same, don’t they? Everything still is broken down into quanta, discrete steps. They haven’t invented a new AI or a chip that goes along with it that “flows”.
