Religion is synonymous with culture to some groups. I have seen the sentiment of how Indigenous Americans were treated to be genocide, which I agree with. For largely the exact same reasons and metrics as religious prosecution in the Soviet Union, destroying a national identity, forceful integration, language erasure, basically indoctrination.
They didn’t support it, they wanted to abolish the entire concept of marriage. Which included same-sex relationships. Saying they supported it is disingenuous.
Russia is hyper conservative because of a ton of reasons, a lot of those cultural. Which the Soviet Union reinforced in many ways and didn’t push against in many other ways. Saying the entire culture flipped because liberals is just not true, c’mon.
