There was an interview with Emma Watson around the live action movie release where she commented along those lines. Something to the effect of, “It’s sad in a way when he becomes human. I was just thinking, ‘You were quite nice before, actually’, you know?”
I’d be rather disappointed when he turned human, I imagine. Not what I was signing up for at all.
I think the makers of Shrek learned that lesson
