Not to “both sides” here, but please both sides, be specific in what AI you’re talking about or think someone’s talking about. The conversation makes 0 progress otherwise and is no better than a circlejerk. Cancer curing AI can still exist without hungry data centers and plagiarism. You can be anti 99% of AI and still work to preserve the 1%, it’s not hard people.
Yes it is hard - because the only AI most people have ever “witnessed” and been aware of “this is called AI” is LLMs and image generating.
For a horryfying number of people, “AI” is only these two things.
By the same mechanism, usage of the term in media says “AI” 90% of the times when it really means just LLMs.
