minus-squarepHr34kY@lemmy.worldlinkfedilinkarrow-up2·edit-221 hours agoThe “half your age plus seven” social rule would imply that a 14 year old can engage with another 14 year old, and only that. I feel that this rule would work better than the hard age limit that the world’s legal systems have adopted, where the age delta isn’t factored in. My son is 15, and I told him it’s half your age plus seven.
minus-squareranzispa@mander.xyzlinkfedilinkarrow-up1·14 hours agoI’m confused by this social rule, never heard of it but doesn’t really make too much sense when applied to a couple number. 10 -> 12 16 -> 15 20 -> 17 30 -> 22 50 -> 32 It only appears to work on the 14 years old case.
minus-squarepHr34kY@lemmy.worldlinkfedilinkarrow-up2·edit-212 hours agoIt starts at 14 because when you’re 13 or less, there is no overlap at all. i.e. a (12/2)+7=13, but (13/2)+7=13.5, so they can’t match. A 13 year old can’t go as low as 12.
