TLDR: it’s a spec bump for the processor and RAM. One question I personally had is does that mean the motherboard is backward compatible with the og FP6?
Couple of things they really need to fix that they just keep dropping the ball on.
Hardware, why still USB. 2.0More timely software updates. The fairphone 6 launched the same month as Android 16 but the Fairphone 6 took until March of 2026 to recieve an update to Android 16. Still waiting on Android 17 which was released last month. Waiting to see how they do on this next major update but 6 month lag time is not impressive.
Unfortunately it is one of the only phones that has a user replaceable battery and is easily repairable. I WANT to like this phone. Just fix the software and don’t cheap out on wired things like connectivity standardards that literally would have added pennies to the cost.
Really wish this had DP Alt Mode, they removed it from the Fairphone 5th to the 6th and I wish this spec bump could readd it.
Yeah this is because for some god unknown reason they decided to drop USB3 support despite the CPU supporting it. It’s such an anti consumer move.
I respect it. But $650 is more than I’m willing to pay for a mobile device I’m guaranteed to drop numerous times.
I think I got my Pixel 4a for $300-400 years ago and it’s still kicking ass. And I don’t feel terrified when I drop it. Shave a couple hundo off this phone and I’ll buy it.
I understand the pricing issue. But isn’t “dropping numerous times and still keep working for years” the exact benefit and use case of a Fairphone?

It really depends on the phone quality. I don’t know how this one will behave, but I have for example a phone just that was just a bit more expensive and almost every week hits the floor at least once. It’s now 2 and half years old and there’s only a few bumps in the corners.
It still has the 3.5mm headphone jack right ?
… right? (Amidala meme)
The lack of 4k 60fps video recording is a bummer for me personally.
There’s no way the human eye can resolve 4K in full detail at the scale of a phone.I misread, my bad. I thought they were talking about viewing, not recording.
TIL it’s impossible to view a phone video on any other device.
Oh, I misread, my bad, I thought it was about viewing 4k, not recording.
It is about viewing?
Original comment was lamenting inability to record at 4k 60 FPS, but I thought they wanted to view 4k on the phone, like with a 4k display. If I remember right, the detail would be too fine to really matter on a phone screen, but if you’re recording instead, you can obviously just watch on something else and I sound like an idiot.
If only we had something larger to watch videos on. Something near a chair or a couch so we could be comfy. It’s have to be real big, though. At least 26 inches, but maybe even up to 70. Fuck. I guess that’s just a dream, though.
I misread, my bad, thought they were talking about viewing, not recording.
See this is more what I want from a Linux phone, but alas, it’s just more Android crap.
You can run postmarketOS on Fairphone 5 and 6 AFAIK.
postmarketOS also works on the 6+
Looks like audio, camera, GPS don’t work and phone is….iffy.
But wow a lot of others things already work! I might grab one of these.
Do i have good news! They do work!
