Doesn’t this only apply where they’re invasive?
Surely they come from somewhere where they were part of the food chain?
This is the Washington metro area on the US East Coast; spotted lanternflies have been invasive here for years.
As I understand it they’re originally from East Asia somewhere.

Yup, these guys just exploded here in Virginia this year. We cut down a tree of paradise that was COVERED in them. Whatever is being done to slow their spread isn’t nearly enough.
Why are you angry at what could be a ladybug?
Spotted lantern fly. Highly invasive. No predators.
Killing them does little though. They’re bugs. They outnumber us.
