Printing is VERY fickle. Most mixtures of PLA or PETG only have a good print temp range of ~20C, and that’s a generous window that is very different based on brand of plastic, age of the spool, and current humidity for some even common plastics, like PLA.
I’ve clogged nozzles with nothing but a hiccup on temperature over the course of long prints (thanks to a dying thermistor, but easy fix), let alone prints where all sorts of variables build up over time until the print pops off the plate half way through.
It will be decades yet before 3D printing is as trivial as a modern laser printer, or even ink jets that don’t randomly decide it’s time you owe HP a new $50 for ink carts…
