We ditched an amazing and simple and intuitive in-house system maintained by a team of 3 people for a MASSIVE bloated cloud tool that is incredibly complicated, settings buried behind a specific series of 9 clicks and an incantation to the old gods (and the new). The tool we bought was also SPECIFICALLY touted as customizable and you, in fact, MUST customize it to actually suit your needs even a little. Did we customize it at all? Oh hell no, the one guy in charge of the project declared that to be “too difficult to maintain” and so now our entire multi-thousand-person company has to trudge through countless hours of convoluted forms and options to do what used to take 5 seconds now takes an hour.

Not to mention the countless pitfalls, like one I discovered that if you, as a user, change your “Default View” (as one may do on many websites or apps) it makes half the forms just stop showing you the relevant details you actually need to even navigate the system, but it doesn’t warn you that you are half blind and missing out on information.

I went several Months like that thinking I just must be a goddamned moron because I can’t figure out how to use the stupid system until one day someone mentioned in passing that my screen looks different than theirs. Oh FFS.

    And it costs MILLIONS.

They didn’t want to pay a team of 3 to maintain a good product, so they paid millions per year for a much much worse pile of garbage.

    Whyyyyyyyyyyyy???
