I’m in a similar boat in I don’t think it was Nolan’s best work (at least, not my favorite of his works), but I don’t see where you’re coming from about the casting. Care to elaborate?
I know you’re not making those arguments, you’re just relaying what you’ve seen elsewhere, but I sure do hate to see them being made because they’re always in bad faith. On the one hand, they claim to want ‘historical accuracy’ as if the movie was trying to be a documentary or something, while simultaneously ignoring the historical fact that different peoples have been moving around and intermingling with other peoples since the dawn of civilization. They want to have their (racist) cake and eat it too all under the disguise of “just trying to be accurate”. Also, let’s be real here, as much as celebrity culture can be (and is) a problem in some cases, they are all professional actors, this is their job and most of them are pretty good at it. And if Nolan was forced to cast only native Greek people, not only would that create its own discrimination, but far fewer people would see the movie because there simply aren’t as many familiar faces. The extreme ends of the casting are “too many black people” and “too many white people” so I guess it boils down to not enough Greek people
