oh i can very much relate to that. i used to love 20th century anime because it was based (think of princess mononoke for example). nowadays it all feels like they’re re-iterating the same theme 200 times over: boy and girl meet in highschool, the boy wears a suit and is somewhat ambitious while the girl is clumsy, talks with a high voice and is somewhat into the main character. i get that that’s probably many high-schoolers fantasy, but damn it feels a whole lot like normalizing the american dream. “you just have to work hard, then you can make it”.
