Also, this was Sony during the PS4 era:

If you’re going to get expensive hardware and be digital only, might as well go PC while you can. The money you save not having to pay PS Plus to play with friends would add up quick. Not to mention open source, privacy respecting options, no need to be online, modding, more welcoming communities, emulation, etc. If you want a console experience, you can use something like Bazzite or SteamOS.

You do own GOG games though, since you can download offline installers that has no DRM whatsoever.

Steam lets you keep access to delisted games in your library but I know what you mean.

You’re not wrong, but they’re more consumer friendly than either Sony or Microsoft. You also have a larger library of titles. You’re also not limited to Steam. GOG at least prides themselves on DRM free games. Probably the closest to digital ownership you’ll get today.

There are PC tools to get around steam DRM. If the time comes where I need to use them, I will. Until then I’ll support steam or gog and the game creators one way or the other the goal is to play the games I want and support the people who make them.

I enjoy gaming on my tv with a controller, i am not a heavy gamer nor an early adopter but if ps6 does not get a disk version i’m quite likely to not get a ps6 at all. They’ve been pushing me away from console gaming further and further with each new generation.

You could always get a steam machine or any variation of that like a dedicated pc hooked up to your tv.

I should have added; the pc community is making it increasingly interesting to spend the money on a better pc. Since over decade (maybe 2 yikes) i have had a laptop and a console. But at the same time, i dont have a phone + camera + mp3 player anymore. Not being able to borrow a game or buy/sell games second hand might really be the final straw. Besides, if you look at how easy they removed those movies they sold, they don’t really give me much trust in their digital only platform.

Heck, even using a Steam Deck as a dedicated console would get you really far until you start playing AAA stuff. Even farther if you have a tolerance for dropping detail on things like anti-aliasing and dynamic shadows!

I’m pretty sure you can find a USB version of any controller you prefer. I have a gamecube controller on a USB cable. Check ebay if you can’t find it anywhere else.

As for the tv, I’m pretty sure you can connect your computer over at least one of either HDMI, DisplayPort, or VGA, depending on how old/budget your hardware is.

I can’t think of any reason to go with the user-locked hardware where you’ll still need to download games anyway instead of owning physical media.

I enjoy gaming on my tv with a controller,

Me too. I know not everybody can do this, but I ran displayport over fiber cables from both my PC and my partner’s into the crawlspace and back up to our TV in the main room.

Another option that we used to use that worked fairly well was Moonlight to stream from PCs to our TVs

And as for controllers, there’s a lot of options out there. 8bitdo makes a bunch that work well and I’ve heard of Flydigi and Scuf as well. I have a Gullikit KingKong 2 Pro myself that I use for PC gaming. Played through Elden Ring and the Witcher 3 with it. Hall effect joysticks are pretty cool and avoid stick drift over time and being able to connect it to most devices (switch, xbox, pc) is nice.

If you want to splurge, the Xbox Elite and Dual Sense Edge both work via bluetooth. You can get wireless adapters for all of the above except the Dual Sense. Standard xbox controllers work as well.

Basically, there’s a lot of cool ways to game on your TV with PC lol

You fools keep giving these companies money.

Stop buying their shit. Don’t play the games on any console or any computer. This is the only way you all will teach them a lesson.

As long as you all keep giving them money, they will not give a fuck about you and will keep abusing you. They think we are all dumb fucks.

And and I need to play the slots to build my ultimate fifa team again this year to feel cool and then do it again next year!

And I neeeeeed the Fortnite skins. Otherwise my friends will call me default and won’t play with me.

You will be a prisoner of the game companies. You’re still looking to get a fix like a junkie. You they will abuse worst of all in the end.

I understood that the other poster was referring to piracy. Many companies will treat you like a criminal for that.

Break free from the shackles of wanting to run the garbage. Really free yourself.

Piracy is still being a junkie and looking for a fix.

Their justification was low sales of physical discs. I wouldn’t put it past them lying about it, but it certainly sounds believable

They’ve decided that the lost sales from removing physical will be made up by having absolute control of all sales.

and they’ll make up for the lower revenue by jacking the price up for the fewer customers still buying.

it’s a tale as old as capitalism itself.

I really wish the games market/industry could just be sustainable and stable.

Like holy crap, they’re always trying to push it and force it to its absolute breaking point for another filthy dollar, and it’s just making everyone miserable.

This is the wonders of capitalism unchecked: They have distilled to a science, the power to make games. Miserable. Wow. What a feat.

Making them professionally isn’t even allowed to be fun anymore, it’s just stress and abject misery and instability to profit some C-suite fart-sniffers.

Playing them is constantly fraught with stupid harebrained get rich schemes and “market fluctuation dynamics” and speculation and fuggin’ GAMBLING.

To the Sonys, the Ubislops, the Electronic Farts out there:

STOP IT. UNLESS YOU’RE MAKING IT BETTER FOR US, LEAVE THE WAY WE PLAY GAMES ALONE. We play games, and sometimes make them, to HELP US ESCAPE YOU!!!

Have a PS2 that’s collecting dust because emulators exist and if i can’t get it on PC it’s not worth playing and it also has to be available when i go sailing because there are too many warning signs lately of corporations raiding digital libraries because of “expired licenses” and they can fuck right off with that excuse in the future, don’t care i paid for that shit so go fuck your licenses!
