Years ago I was tempted to get a 4TB SSD for data storage as prices were getting reasonable and I just kept thinking wait for it to drop a bit more. Now 4TB HDDs are pushing the same price SSDs were back then. Fuck.

My PC is currently 512GB SSD boot drive and 3TB LVM from a 1/2TB HDD. Those HDDs are getting pretty old now so I probably should replace them at some point but I resent having to pay the prices they ask right now. Maybe I should just uninstall half of my steam library that I realistically won’t play any time in years or ever again. Reduce my storage needs. Data backups only take like 50GB or so.

Second hand SSDs are getting kinda tempting tbh. But even they have seen their prices rise. Wish I bought all of the 512GB ones I saw for £10 each now. Got plenty of SATA ports, why shouldn’t I use them?

In late 2024 I managed to get a good MVME 512GB SSD for less than 40€! It also clearly has a DRAM cache because it’s really fast. That SSD probably costs at least four times as much now, I should have gotten another one
