Prime Minister Keir Starmer said Britain will ban children under 16 from using social media apps like Snapchat, TikTok, and YouTube from early next year.
I have heard this argument and agree with it. However… to use those services, you already have to dox yourself. You have to create an account (they nerf anonymous access to the point of unusability) and in doing so, link your name into the web of information these ad brokers and their ilk already have about you. And that is FAR MORE than any government-issued ID would provide.
So my immediate reaction to an ID requirement is “no way” but further thought reveals that it really doesn’t matter. The only way to win is not to play. None of those social media apps/sites are necessary, nobody has to use them.
