I’d say this is more something done at the instance level. Each instance has its own vibe, some are very much on the dark road while others are on the light road.

It’s a good meme for sure, just wanted to put a positive, actionable spin on that. It’s up to instances to reject that shit.

My biggest wish for lemmy instances would be to avoid recreating subreddits like “mildlyinfuriating” and try and come up with novel ideas. It is of course significantly harder but creating something that isn’t just reddit but worse is probably the best way to get people to come to the site and act differently. I think one of the most interesting lemmy things in a while was Chronicles of SpaceDogs on lemmygrad.ml even though I didn’t participate there I thought it was a cool idea to use lemmy as a personal blog. Also things like eternalplaylist on crazypeople.online is something I haven’t seen on reddit, frosty and I have our own lemmyapi scrobbler like programs we wrote and can post what we’re listening too then I imported the RSS feed into my reader and listen to whatever gets posted there while I’m at work and it is cool when new people post songs and they play. I don’t mean the no re-creation as an iron clad rule though, there are some generic things like memes and asklemmy that work fine.

I agree, those are some great ideas! The eternal playlist bit sounds super cool as well, and I agree, I do like seeing SpaceDogs update. I personally really like themed local instances, they have a lot of opportunity to have fun community things, like Hexbear’s megathreads and Lemmygrad’s general thread.
