Because all those buttons have code in them that collects your online activity, even if you don’t click them. https://developers.facebook.com/docs/meta-pixel/advanced/

Although that’s true, it’s more basic than that: the web developers that make those porn sites? They use a basic video box template that just has that share button in there. They usually don’t bother to remove it. So it’s just there on most porn sites. For what it’s worth it’s not there on all of them.

Couldn’t they do that without having a functional share button?

Whoever cropped the source out of this screenshot is mean and dumb.

Screenshot of the tweet posted by OP, but unlike the one posted above this screenshot includes the poster's user info. Tweet by Billy Cove, username @cove_billy, which reads, "Why do Porn sites have a 'share to Facebook' button? Dunno about you, but I've never watched porn and thought, fuck me, I reckon uncle Steve, aunty Steph, and my old Geography teacher would fucking love this!!"

I’m guessing he spent 5 minutes, 10 tops. 15 if thinking about his old geography teacher. 2 if thinking about Aunt Steph, who was formerly Uncle Steve.

The facebook logo could be loaded from facebook. Then Facebook knows the preferences and can offer more suitable ads, whether the page is shared or not.
