Of course, the men’s room is just always covered in urine. Old men and young kids miss, even people with aim splash back out of the toilet enough to get it on the walls/floor/under the urinals.

I don’t know what happened to them, but it used to be where I live that the bathroom would have floor-to-belly-height urinals and the entire bathroom floor would be gently sloped towards them, and the walls would be tiled to the same height.
This meant that cleanup could be done by blasting everything with industrial detergent/disinfectant and literally power washing it all into the urinal drains. Now in New construction I only see the wall mounted urinals, and a floor drain in the middle to meet code requirements, but often the cleaners don’t know that they have to put water into that drain to prevent it evaporating out and letting sewer gasses flow into the room (ew.)

Overall a downgrade for both staff and visitors.

      Enpissification.

Builder charges X for a bathroom, builds it out of cheaper fixtures, gets signoff from the client by using “premium” trims that cost them pennies more.

The f’d up part is that for most things being enshittified, we’d GLADLY pay $1 more for the nicer product for them to include $0.10 of screws they’re saving by putthing crap together with plastic.

its deeper than that, Cost of operation. Who pays the cleaning staff to disinfect those tiles so bacterial growth doesn’t occur? Plastics and many cheaper materials are bio-inhibitors. They can be covered in fecal and urine waste and not be literal petri dishes for bacteria, fungus’s and mold.

they also look plain (IE: “Industrial”, currently a desirable artistic trait. When we live in a society that is all doomer and see’s everything for its resale “potential”) and last a relatively long times(plastic erosion is significantly slower than cheap tile). In a era where operating a business is less about making or selling products you believe in, but making sure your investors (bank/shareholders) get paid. its one major cost(staff) off the top.

More so when most businesses rent the buildings they use, they do not own them. You want to blame anyone, blame the landlords that charge based on location, not based on business profits + their own costs.
