tbh imho we should be good for quite some time now. for windows there’s too many legacy industrial stuff that can’t run on tightly restricted ios-ish environments. for android, maybe someone figures out a good enough workaround… or we all switch to custom roms
Android piracy? What’s that?
People using Macs, or installing Linux on Windows PCs, and emulating Windows via a compatibility layer.
Android… no idea. Google’s about to lock it down like iOS, but there are no Android apps I would want to pirate. I own the few good ones I care about, like Nova Prime and Poweramp. I don’t much care about phone games. Anything that’s available as a subscription, you can almost always find an app you just need to pay for once, but the App Store and Play Store won’t promote them because they want their cut.
As far as Windows itself goes… I don’t really care. I imagine I’ll be using it at work for some time. At home, I just use a Mac, so I miss most of the bullshit. And a lot of the Windows bullshit is tied to having a personal Microslop account attached to Windows — the corporate one I use for Microslop 365 doesn’t “cut it”. And I’m fine with that, with Copilot not working, etc.
I think Windows is trying their best to make windows as unappealing as possible and Google seems to want to do the same with Android. If there isn’t a slow trickle of people to Mac or Linux for computers and things like Iphone, graphene OS, or Linux mobile for cell phones and tablets I would be very surprised.
As long as a product or service can be better and people behind it are unwilling to make it so, there will be others modding it for themselves, their friends or the world.
It’ll end up more like console piracy, where you need a specialised build or custom firmware to do it.
And just like console piracy, you’ll need to keep the device offline (or have limited online capabilities).
… Which is exactly what you want in a cellphone /s
Wdym?
