I can’t find anything about a DMCA from the artist, most articles only mention that he hasn’t responded and likely was unaware of the use at the time the articles were written (since they’re (arguably justified) instant reaction rage click articles).
BTW, the Japanese guy who originally made the artwork was so angry he tried filing a DMCA for misuse.
