Second attack? Out of the loop, is it still the current date as the password or…?

EDIT: sounds like it, searched by post title “fridge” and sorted by new. Either that or it’s the exact same ongoing “attack” being described.

Some European fridge manufactures made commercial fridges that allowed businesses to remotely monitor and adjust temps. Problem is that they are connected to the internet with no security what-so ever. Why they have to be connected to the internet is just my guess but it could be because they go through the manufacturers servers first before allowing the end user to access like alot of smart devices back in ye old days.

Well someone figured out how to find these devices on the web and take control. Problem is now that these fridges cant be updated in the traditional sense to patch the vulnerability. The software is embedded into the control board so the only way to patch them is replacing or physically modifying the board which requires a tech to go out to each site and physically swap em all.

So this will keep happening until everyone disconnects their fridges from the network which as i guess means you cannot monitor or change temps as easily or every model is updated.

RIP large supermarkets with their hundreds of fridges i guess.
