Are you sure the fentanyl wasn’t supplemental to something else like propofol? It’s not used for anesthesia induction before surgery AFAIK, just pain relief afterwards. If the IV burned a little when they pushed the plunger down on a syringe full of milky fluid, that was propofol.
But I can see an anesthesiologist saying something like, “We’re going to put you under now. We’ll give you fentanyl so you won’t be in pain when you wake up.”
I want to say they gave me two stages of anesthetic, but I also think fentanyl was the first of the two stages (counter to what you’re saying should have happened). But also, I’m at best an amateur at chemistry; even less when it comes to medicine. That said, reasonably certain what they gave me was not milky nor did it burn going in (you’ll have to excuse me if I misremember any deets, it was my first time going under and I was irrationally nervous about it)
I could have some things mixed up, but it did stand out in my mind that they used fentanyl (and I remember how fuckin’ nice it felt when they threw it in my veins). But that’s how I remember it.
I don’t know what order they should have been given in. Maybe the fentanyl was first? Did your tongue just go numb and your vision go dark for a few seconds before you passed out or did it feel like an angel tossed you into a zero gravity hot tub and instantly jerked you off?
