It’s a meme version of the horseshoe theory which is a broadly accepted political theory. Essentially as you get more extreme on either end of political spectrum, you converge towards wanting the same policies even if their reasoning is in opposition. Both oppose Israel, for different reasons. Both reject mass media, for different reason. Both are isolationist, for different reasons.

This version pokes fun at tankies specifically but you shouldn’t take it that seriously. It’s a meme and not an actually supported political theory. But the joke is that the original post was essentially saying “china good america bad”, the comment was essentially saying “careful, MAGA uses this exact reasoning as an attack on China”. The joke is both sides landed on the same core belief that “China is winning because Americans are on opiates” but for different reasons. One thinks it’s because America is just morally failing in some way leading to opiate use, the other thinks China is intentionally doing it TO America. Same conclusion, different reasoning.

But this meme hurt some tankies feelings so it’s getting down voted. Isn’t the first time, won’t be the last time.

Horseshoe theory isn’t broadly accepted. The Wikipedia page for it is full of academics pointing out how terrible it is as a model for understanding the far left and the far right, and this summarizes it well:

The horseshoe theory is not widely supported within academic circles; peer-reviewed research by political scientists on the subject is scarce, and existing studies and comprehensive reviews have often contradicted its central premises, or found only limited support for the theory under certain conditions.

The “stethoscope theory” is even less supported. Where on Earth did you get the idea that any of this made any sense?
