When did Apple ever do more and cost less, outside of the early 80s? The “Apple tax” has been around for 40 years. Regardless of whether it did more or less, and it’s done lots of both over the years, Apple stuff has cost more for almost the entirety of their existence and you don’t even need to specify what type of device.
In some countries (like Brazil), apple was never the best bang for your buck. For comparison, right now, a brand new 13" Macbook Air M4 (16GB RAM, 512GB SSD) is over 1700 USD. You can get similar performance at ~400USD below that.
Which has always been true. They just don’t sell cheap low perforlance hardware. It’s like complaining ferraris are expensive, and then someone points out actually they have a lot of performance for what you pay for… yeah…
To be clear i haven’t bought apple in decades and never will again. I used to be a big fan in the 2000s and 2010s though.
I run two machines at home, one for gaming (Linux) and a Mac Mini for music production. I don’t do much else on the Mac so I am genuinely curious - in what ways do Macs not let you do what you want? I’ve had to allow unsigned apps a handful of times, but I was never stopped from running them.

More performance maybe but you’re trapped in their walled garden so you can’t do what you want with it.
Yep 100%
