I’ve tried to spend my way to happiness. I’m an enthusiastic beginner to any hobby and have flamed out on watches (twice), sneakers, car modding, PC building/gaming, photography, VR (3 different headsets), handheld/retro gaming, home theater, headphones/IEMs, Magic: the Gathering, KPOP, and travel. Car modding, PC building, and collecting watches, sneakers, and headphones fed my need for attention when I’d post pictures on reddit, and the rest were failed attempts to recapture the joy of my 20s when I shared vacations, gaming, TV/movies, and music with my friends. I’m turning 50 next year and took the last week of my 40s off and am struggling to figure out what to do with it. It’s not like I have unlimited funds but any reasonable travel destination is in reach but all I really want to do with my spare time is get high, smoke cigars, and read light novels or watch anime and spending money to do that somewhere far away seems dumb even to me. If I had more money I do not think it would make planning any easier.
In the US*
Someone I very tangentially knew (my friend’s wife’s friend) won something like $5 million on a lottery. They made a Facebook post that just said “I know you all know” and then deleted all their socials and was never heard from again lol.
Is that Seth Green?
Finally I can afford to go to medical school
Finally I can afford to realize my dream of surgically transitioning into an overfull shopping cart!
I’m confused, you’d move to a developed nation?
When I had disposable income, sometimes (less than once every few months) I’d buy some kind of lottery ticket/scratch off. Maybe I could afford a house that way.
Some of the first things I did with my first camgirl paycheck this summer included getting professional dental care (a cleaning and braces), getting a full-body checkup, starting to eat a healthy and varied diet, and moving out into my own place.
Becoming a camgirl before moving to your own place must be like Metal Gear level of stealth.
No stealth required; my parents are supportive because they want me to have money and live a better life than they did.
that’s impressive
My parents, unironically: “You’re on some kind of device basically all the time, so you might as well put that time to good use and capitalize on it.”
i needed to justify myself for almost everything i did during my education, just because they don’t get what i do why. and i have a PhD in physics… but fundamental research is not particularly profitable.
Damn, didn’t think parents can be chill like that.
That is wholesome AF parenting
How does one become a cam girl as an old chubby guy to get this mythical “healthcare” money you speak of? Asking for a friend
get an education, make yourself valuable, get a job making money, save your money, then move to a better country
Thanks. Now I have student loans, my degree has been made worthless, I’ve been made redundant at my job, I’ve run out of savings (did I mention student loans?), and I’m getting deported soon!
Oh sure, give me the hard way!
Maybe you can be a camera guy
Man, I just want dental, is that too much to ask?
