Version 39 of Nobara, the Linux distribution dedicated to games and content creation, has been released. As well as changing the desktop interface from Gnome to KDE and using Fedora 39 as the base, there are a number of new features and enhancements.

    Slightly off topic, but there’s a review video linked in the article, in which the guy keeps pronouncing the G in Gnome with notable emphasis…

    I always assumed it was silent?

      The was a GNOME FAQ that describes “guh-NOME” or IPA /ɡˈnəʊm/ as the official pronunciation, due to the emphasis of G as GNU. It does acknowledge that many pronounce it “NOME” or /nəʊm/: https://stuff.mit.edu/afs/athena/astaff/project/aui/html/pronunciation.html

        I know a few people including my university professor who call it gee-nome, I don’t think there are particular reasons but it does emphasize the g from GNU as well as making an actual word.
