I’m not an expert, but it is a decentralised network stack that can work over any physical medium, so you and friend can spin up two radios and have text and audio communication, and simple web sites as well as lots of other stuff completely independently from anybody!
It also works over the Internet, so this is the easiest way to try it out. If you want to set up your own physical network, you might want to look into HaLow radio as that’s probably the fastest medium among the available options (way faster than the popular LoRa).
