I didn’t leave it out because you don’t need install wine. Wine is part of Proton, Steam installs and configures Proton automatically.
You can install Steam through the GUI. Every major Desktop Environment for the past decade has included the ability to install software through the GUI.
You open Steam, click ‘Enable Steam Play’ in the options and then it is functionally identical to installing and playing games on Windows. You don’t need to even know what wine is, or how proton works.

I’m not subscribed to any Linux forums, I happen to view “all” sometimes.
Linux doesn’t trigger me. The community of users does because they can’t grasp that not every human being thinks Linux is the best. It is extremely impractical for music production and for gaming.
Cool. You can is tall proton, but ever single Linux version I have ever used is nothing but problems and incompatibility with software.
I have no desire to Google search how to do basic things on a computer.
Like I said before, I use Linux when I want to, but responding to the original post I replied it, it’s not practical for me to use.
Of course it isn’t practical for all purposes, the people that believe that are either ignorant or a caricature. I was addressing the specific task of gaming.
In that task, it is very workable. There are some caveats but the fact that the Steamdeck exists and is popular is testament to the state of gaming on Linux.

That’s not because of Linux, but of your unfamiliarity with it. You needed to struggle to learn to do basic tasks in Windows when you were learning it and now you don’t. Windows didn’t change, you just learned
I’d need to use Google to do basic tasks in Adobe’s software, but that doesn’t say anything about the quality of the software, or it’s usefulness… only my lack of familiarity. If I had experience with their products then I wouldn’t need Google.
