      Yes although I think the tragedy of the commons is absolutely a real thing and not mythological, but it does also get overstated and abused by capitalists to justify enclosures and privatisation.

      The real misdirection is that while the logical conclusion should be “capitalism breaks sustainable stewardship and dramatically exacerbates the tragedy of the commons”, it gets shoehorned into “one guy should own the commons” which is batshit crazy ofc

        Yeaaah, I know exactly what you mean. As someone who works in a public library, I realize despite lofty ideals you can’t just give the masses something awesome and expect them to take care of it. Not with modern attitudes anyway.

        It’s a TON of work, expense, and management to deal with misanthropic abuse so others can enjoy it. I hope we can start to see a cultural shift where people actually see shared privileges as a shared responsibility…
