yeah same. I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve ripped lock tabs off, meanwhile the number of times the stiff protective boot makes it impossible to unclip when it is cold is easily in the thousands.
Also reterminating a plug with a broken lock tab takes like 5 minutes to cut and crimp… Or be a real chad and throw a strip of duct tape to hold it in and say fuckit.
I have an optiplex micro I bought off eBay that has the opposite of the locking tab on the jack broken out. Piece of string tied around the cable then wrapped around the chassis to hold it in place.
Used to run LAN parties. We had a big bag of ethernet cables we inherited from the people who ran it before us, and like 50% of them had no tab. Eventually we chucked them out.

5 min to fix is generous too. That includes finding your tools before and putting them away after.
