The socks have a bit of a learning curve, depending on what you want to do with them, but it’s worth it. It’s such a huge relief to not care how much more Windows is getting enshittified this week, since it’s not my problem anymore.

I think this has a LOT to do with how susceptible a person is to reason that goes against their existing beliefs. I also turned away from the conservative rhetoric in my early twenties. I wasn’t really invested in any group, just talking with a few dudes on a gun forum. I didn’t have a lot to lose in terms of social investment. But for rural people, going against the right wing narrative could mean being isolated from their whole physical community.

Yeah. I got over my hangups about small talk when I started working for a well-known people person with a big, room-filling personality. I was not expecting to get into pineapple pizza so much as an adult. First of all, there aren’t many pizzas I’d turn down anyway. But pineapple is fucking amazing. Not really. If the meme had said that white people were genetically inferior because we redo high fives, then it would be racist.

Human nature. We’re hardwired to form tribal groups around perceived similarities, which necessarily entails excluding people who are different. Overcoming the negative results of this biological wiring is an eternal challenge for us.

Edit: downvoting me doesn’t make the truth go away. This is established science. Humans will form groups compulsively, over literally anything.

Is there a term for when something seems patently racist but also you know first-hand it’s objectively true, so you find yourself looking up racism in the dictionary to see if it counts?

The old point-n-click flash game Johnny Rocketfingers had a bunch. There was a part where you had to find a way out of a jail cell or something, and if you used the hand tool on a crack in the wall, your character just says “feels cracktacular.”

Oh, and there was the old original You Don’t Know Jack game where if you told the host “fuck you” or something similar in the answer box, they’d just lose patience with you and exit the game for you.
