XP ruled idk what they’re on about. Windows 8 really began the death knell of Windows IMO. A new UI people didnt want or like forced down your throat. They started their new hideous and confusing design language, which led to the truly abhorrent Windows 10 half-baked replacement for the control panel. Then the ads. Spyware baked in. Vibe coded start menu that takes 300ms to open. Sigh.

You can do this and still use it to generate insecure code or even malicious code! Humans suck at reviewing

Is that included in the token & cost counter? I haven’t really noticed that yet. It’s just the most reliable and best harness i’ve yet used. For context i’ve only otherwise tried claude, gemini, and aider. More if you count non cli apps

yo… what? i was configuring json files n shit with custom sources. granted i used lmstudio as ollama doesn’t support mlx models or something for mac. This is definitely the easy way if you’re using ollama.

Opencode isn’t very fun to set up with local LLMs and I’ve had issues with tool calling, but it’s very doable! That said, OpenCode is my go-to, absolutely love it compared to all alternatives I’ve tried

On PC, this would enable modders and map builders with more tools. Plus UE4 is EOL and afaik won’t be receiving updates, while the game will.

KDE for me was death by 1000 cuts. I’d get a notification that I need to reboot my system but clicking the X doesn’t close it. The settings GUI pretty abysmal, but ig when you compare it to Windows it still looks golden. Randomly can’t wake up from sleep sometimes until i restart my display manager from a TTY. The “task manager” didn’t let me see all running tasks… It’s somehow so polished while also being janky.

Gnome alternatively is all polish, but you have to fight tooth and nail to go beyond defaults. I’m sure it’s more bloated too.

Now im on Niri with plenty of other problems but at least they’re my fault!

edit: I feel the need to extol the virtues of KDE plasma as I still do return to it when i’ve had enough of niri’s BS for the day

I just assumed the python one would be more bloated inherently, and that is the common theme I’ve heard about matrix specifically. I tried using an alternative server supposedly lighter on resources but just never finished setting up ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Fluxer is a direct Discord drop-in. Matrix requires a lot of setup and tweaking to get high throughput video. Plus the default server and client are bloated and buggy

you have to remember that proton is translating Windows software to Linux while you play so the fact that it works at all is pretty great, but of course it’s not a great experience you’ve had!

Have you tried experimental proton versions in the compatibility settings? Also do you have the proprietary nvidia drivers?

Frankly Linux, especially gaming, is not ready without plenty of command-line foo

You’re correct. I think a lot of folks are looking for something decentralized/self-hostable to avoid the lock-in disaster that Discord has created, at least, I am. And I have found a dearth of alternatives! Good article, though.

I did. It isn’t a viable selfhosted alternative atm unless you want to do actual dev work
