Unfortunately probably the biggest thing to come out of it will be the marketing aspect. If they spend enough money to train small models on our wants and likes it will give them tremendous amounts of return.

The key to using it in a financially successful manner is finding problems that fit the bill. Training costs are fairly high, quality content generation is also rather expensive. There are sticky problems around training it from non-free data. Whatever you’re going to use it for either needs to have a significant enough advantage to make the cost of training /data worth it.

I still think we’re eventually going to see education rise. The existing tools for small content generation adobe’s use of it to fill in small areas is leaps and bounds better than the old content aware patches. We’ve been using it for ages for speech recognition and speech generation. From there it’s relatively good at helper roles. Minor application development, copy editing, maybe some VFX generation eventually. Things where you still need a talented individual to oversee it but it can help lessen the workload.

There are lots of places where it’s being used where I think it’s a particularly poor fit. AI help desk chatbots, IVR scenarios, It says brain dead as the original phone trees and flow charts that we’ve been following for decades.

IT here, Yes, by all means involve me. I will buy a second monitor and plug it into a known box that is no business going anywhere. I will then block, at the network firewall level, any outbound traffic to anything that thing talks to. If it uses its own MAC address at the head end I will then collect and publish every connection that thing tries to make outside to a blacklist and provide it to the public.

Well, I mean wow was already at $15 a month back in the day. When it came out in 2004, It was like paying $25 per month today. It was damn pricey back then. Any of the multi-platform password managers that support pass keys will solve this.

You walk into the vault on every platform and your pass keys are magically shared between every platform you’re logged into.

In any system that I’ve used pass keys for (which is every system that supports them), you can go into the password section and delete devices/passkeys.

To regenerate new passkeys they either support it directly in the spot where you deleted it or you log out log back in with username password and 2FA and it asks you again if you want to set up a passkey. I’ve not run into anything else.

For somebody complaining about making things complicated you certainly complicated the s*** out of a short post.

Storing your passkey in any of the shared password managers solves almost every problem you’ve listed.

With bitwarden and I have offline access to my passkey. I don’t know why the hell you’d need offline access to your pass key because they’re designed to protect online systems, But it could if I wanted it to.

With Bitwarden I can use my phone, or I can use my browser, or any one of four other browsers, or any other computer.

If I need to reset one of my pass keys I reset it in one place and it gets reset everywhere.

I’ve been slowly trying to claw my workspace email back to my Gmail account so I can stop paying for workspace and move it to proton, unfortunately I have a metric buttload of Android apps and Google auth wrapped around my workspace emails.
