The reason there isn’t any other option is because nobody puts in the effort to add other options.

There’s a Simpsons meme currently in Active on 196 rn from 1994 pointing out how ineffective both parties are. People have had longer than I have been alive to work on a third way.

America isn’t collapsing now all of a sudden. People have been passively watching it die for decades.

Except now Trump is starting to play hardball with Netanyahu, and is distinctly unhappy with the the U.S. taking so much flak while being treated as a money fountain.

There is a much more real world where Trump gets sick of Bibi and pulls his support than Harris pulling support from Israel. A fully isolationist U.S. is better for Palestine.

  • As far as I know, we are still not quite in an Authoritarian state here in the US.

Just wanna drill into this; the United States has been an authoritarian state for as long as I’ve been alive. Deporting people without due process is not new. Supporting genocides is not new. The police state we live in is not new. The rule of law has been a joke for so long zoomers have internalized it. There is a reason why most of the governments we have overthrown have been democracies, and there is a reason the US has mostly replaced those democracies with dictatorships. We are the evil empire, and we have been for decades at this point.

  • I honestly feel like Smith gets a real bad rap from undereducated progressives. He would also have hated what the United States has morphed into, and I’m sure he’s spinning in his grave over people using his economic theories as justifications for pure laissez-faire capitalism. “The Invisible Hand of the Market” that conservatives use to justify trickle-down economics and often attribute to him isn’t even really his, it’s from a batshit insane later guy called Paul Samuelson! Smith only referred to it in the context of international investments, never this idea that “domestic corporations will always do what is good for the public.”

I don’t agree with everything in Wealth of Nations, but it seems a lot of people just dismiss Smith completely out of hand. We should talk about him just like we talk about Marx, his work is not useless nor trivial.

  • If it was just one extra manual step, it’d be fine. In my experience working with Nvidia drivers on Mint and later Ubuntu, it’s more like 15 extra steps and some things still don’t work. Sure, it’s better than dealing with Windows 11, but from my experience it has not felt like less hassle than getting games running on Windows 10. Maybe that’s just an Nvidia issue, and I certainly would love to upgrade to an AMD system for better Vulkan support, but that’s not happening anytime soon.

  • III. Little Jimmy doesn’t really need to, because the amount of times that windows update completely bricks your drivers is pretty low. You’re clearly overestimating the driver issues that people experience with Nvidia or otherwise on Windows. Neither myself nor any of the people I know have ever experienced any significant driver-based issues while playing on Windows, and the truth is that the vast majority of Windows users do not even need to know what a graphics driver is to be able to easily play games on Windows.

Yeah it’s great that AMD support seems to be great and I agree that Nvidia sucks as a company, but I’m not the one claiming Linux is the greatest gaming system.

Biggest one is going to remain gaming. If anything, I’m beginning to feel like Steam Proton is starting to harm Linux gaming efforts more than helping them. I’ve known games that have dropped native Linux support because “It works on Proton!” only for the game to not actually work on Proton.

If we could get to a world where every game could actually be run on Linux with minimal hassle, maybe then you can beat the drum that there’s no point using Windows. Until then, it’s going to remain the OS for gaming.

  • People like to make fun of this idea that “the right can’t meme,” but I’d agree with you and argue they’re actually really fucking good at it.

I think it’s a real shame that progressives basically ceded the tools of shock and profanity to people on the far right. Maybe it’s because I was a huge fan of the Colbert Report growing up, but I feel like satire is a great way to deconstruct far right positions by showing their logical conclusions. The problem is that you can’t really satirize a racist anymore; you’ll get called a racist yourself and be canceled.

There are literally people in this thread claiming misandry cannot exist. People are pretending hating and abusing men is totally okay, and then getting surprised when some of those men start to resent them for it. To say nothing of the fact that the loneliness epidemic has been scientifically measured and is effecting both men AND women.
