  • It’s just people being weird and conservative and nostalgic. “Game that doesn’t make me feel like a child” = “modern game”.

Old. They’re being old. This is EXACTLY the same energy as a boomer saying “Music these days don’t get it” or “No one pays attention to this anymore” or “Nothing’s as good as it used to be”.

The take hyper focuses on negativity and would rather whine and complain about everything bad NOW, while nostalgia is living in their head rent free, because things are passing them by.

A friend of mine started saying BG3 was garbage recently. When I asked why he couldn’t adequately get out a reason. They were all weird and dismissive. We ended up in a heated discussion because I felt he wasn’t being fair at all to the game. Turns out I was right. He eventually ended up saying “Listen I just think the game fucking sucks because there is too much in it. I don’t have the time for all this. I miss when games were good and didn’t sprawl on forever, forcing you to get confused and lost.” When I pointed out that his complaint was based entirely in what he likes and not what’s good, he changed subject.

Nine times out of ten these “IT’S NOT GOOD ANYMORE” are based purely in nostalgia that ignores everything negative because they’re not looking to criticize. They’re looking to vent their frustrations but don’t know how to do it in a healthy or fair manner.

There was another video post to this community last night at around the same time (although was later deleted) saying “Why aren’t games fun anymore?”

This entire thing feels shallow as hell and just one angry dude who’s pissed about things not being like they used to be so he’s whining about it to other people who are angry.

There is literally nothing objective about this. It’s all using heavy skewed data to try and prove its point. He has absolutely no clue what he’s talking about. He’s just angry and saying things that he thinks are intelligent to try and back up his point.

Only thing I’ve discovered from this post is another “analyzer” to avoid at all possible costs.

  • No Shit. That sort of happens when you’re making insanely stupid decisions. Banning porn gets pointed to a lot but even after that it makes no sense.

They never do any advertising. Ever. Every other social media site will but I’ve never seen an ad for tumblr in my life except *when I was on tumblr itself.

They don’t have anything unique that wasn’t made by the users. All trends and methods and whatever are made by the people. Tumblr itself seemingly just sits there and does nothing.

The site hasn’t been changed much in a decade. There have been a couple tweaks here and there of how things look and function but nothing new has been added. It’s just aggressively keeping the status status quo but the format they’re using is ancient. It feels outdated.

They don’t capitalize on anything important. When Twitter started to implode, Tumblr has a huge influx of users who are escaping Musk but just sat there. All these new people jumped on and were confused but tumblr didn’t even bother to release a short video or a post even welcoming people.

Yet when Twitter then added the “Buy a checkmark” thing, tumblr went “Good idea!” and added the ability to do the same thing as a bit of a laugh. There’s no consistency at all on when to do something.

There isn’t a single serious person working on that staff. Everyone has been running tumblr like it’s some small niche site when it’s one of the biggest social media sites on the planet. I don’t want them to turn into reddit or something but they aren’t doing anything at all.

So the boomer mindset but about video games. Great.

This take is so exhausting. Especially when they act like this is a universal issue. It isn’t. Not everyone shares the same opinion.

This is the exact same bullshit as “Kids music these days is garbage” or “TV isn’t as good as it used to be” but about video games.

  • I loved MK11 and still have it on my PS5, years later. That rarely happens. But I hate the multiplayer. Primarily because I suck. The single player I can at least try and can say “input reading” when I get my ass kicked. But online? Just ends up being disrespectful douchebags. Kick my ass, fine, but do you have to be so fuckin toxic about it?

Knowing there’s a huge drop in single player content just simply means I’m not getting the game. At least not without a drastic sale. Considering Liu Kang is now a God (FUCK him, the aggravating little twat) I was already kinda meh on it. Knowing that I’d be shoved towards the ‘community’? Love you Ed Boone but you can fuck off now.

    • Cyberpunk 2077 (PS5): I am gonna be getting the DLC when I can and I needed to check out the new update they dropped a couple months ago. The new perks are insane and the game has never felt so alive, clean and breathing. Love it and I already had a few hundred hours into it previously.

    • Elden Ring (PS5): Always looking for co-op players. Seriously. I need more people to play with. Shoot me a message. I love the game but I can’t say I’m good at it despite like… 600 hours. I mean I can hold my own but I’m not awesome or anything. Doesn’t help that I am running a spellcaster build.

Also reinstalled a couple base builders and RTS games like Planet Coaster, Evil Genius 2, Age of Wonders: Planetfall, etc.
