  • That would only encourage billionaires to nope off into space fantasy land (and of course they would still maintain power over governments). As it is right now, billionaires being on the same planet as normal people is at least incentivizing them to keep the planet in somewhat hospitable conditions.

As it is now, the best course of action would be to depose billionaires more quickly than they can escape off-planet. And to do it in a public and spectacular way to put fear into the billionaires

  • Basically everything is more powerful than the steam deck. The steam deck wasn’t really designed to be powerful, moreso it’s meant to be the “reference model” for handhelds: cheapest, weakest, yet also most mainstream. My understanding is that the Z2 should be substantially more powerful than the steam deck, and though it should also use more battery than the steam deck, it also has a larger battery capacity to make up for that increased power draw. Price, on the other hand… Well, nothing can even get close to the sort of price that a steam deck offers

  • That looks like the horizontal grid. All the custom images are in a folder in Steam (see below for the location). You should be able to copy an image into that folder, and as long as it’s using the correct name format, Steam should use that image just fine. You’ll need to know the game’s ID, but you should be able to figure that out by cross-referencing other custom images

    • Image folder location: (steam directory)/userdata/(user id)/config/grid/

    • horizontal grid format: (game id).(file format) (ex: 2284631436.png)

    • vertical grid format: (game id)p.(file format) (ex: 2284631436p.png)

    • hero (aka wallpaper) format: (game id)_hero.(file format) (ex: 2284631436_hero.png)

    • logo format: (game id)_logo.(file format) (ex: 2284631436_logo.png)

    • how to find game id: there’s no easy way to find it, but you can set a custom image for the game with any of the other options, then look into the folder to see what the custom image is called. You then should be able to figure out what the game id is by comparing it to the name format

  • Frankly I think it’s simply that the public doesn’t particularly care to figure it out. As an analogy, people use Windows because that’s just what their computer came with, and therefore saying that Linux is free (as in price) is a meaningless selling point to them. You don’t convince Windows users to switch by saying that Linux is free, you convince them by saying that Linux is more convenient, stable, and less annoying.

In the same way, you don’t convince the public into using Lemmy by arguing about why open protocols are better. You convince people by saying that Lemmy is basically like Reddit but not overrun by bots and spammers

  • Sure, but the overall intent holds true. Not just in professional settings, it’s important to have the skill to reframe a negative comment into a positive one.

This is probably what I would say:

It sounds like you’ve got everything you need for the meeting. Would it still make sense for me to attend?

If that’s the case, then I think I’d be more useful handling some other tasks in the meantime. Please keep me updated on the outcome of the meeting
