The idea that you’re “supposed” to spend $X on a ring is absurd. Are you getting engaged to show off your wealth or to commit to a relationship? What does spending excessive amounts of money on a trinket have anything to do with the latter?

I wouldn’t call myself frugal by any means, I generally support people spending their money on nice things that they find value in so long as they’re not living beyond their means.
That being said, IMHO dropping $5k on a ring makes you a god damn idiot.
From what I remember about 2012, our greatest worry was the Mayan calendar ending and speculation that they had predicted the end of the world. What a simpler time.
I never pre-order. I broke that rule exactly once and pre-ordered No Man’s Sky, boy did they make a fool out of me. Never again.
There are plenty of games I play that are on early access, the qualifier is whether the game is in a playable state and is fun to play (by account of online reviews or friend’s recommendations).

Another idea could be to see if local small businesses would be willing to sell your wares! I’ve seen stuff like handmade earrings and trinkets for sale at the register at small coffee shops in my town, plenty of other businesses also have paintings and photographs by local artists on the walls for sale. I have no insight on those agreements are made but I’d imagine they would ask for a commission.

You may have already looked into it and I’m not sure what the farmer’s market scene is where you are but I often see small scale makers selling wares at mine!

“Turn your hobby into a business!”, they said. “It’ll be fun!”, they said.
My EV charging app sent me a wrapped-style email the other day. Full of stuff like the station that I used most often. It’s too much.

The fundamental argument here is that it’s not the system which incentivizes abusers that is the problem but rather the abusers who exploit the system. Sure, we can have another working class revolution, keep capitalism around and build institutions that keep exploitation in check but given enough time those with capital and the power that it represents will chip away at those institutions, continuing the cycle and harming people in the process.
This doesn’t bother me. It would bother me if 220 * 2 = 540. The equation in this meme should be something like 11 * 11 ≠ 111

Big Brother can suck my dick.

Nobel should award Obama the inaugural Nobel World Cup. Trump would absolutely lose his shit.
To be fair, it’s still at least 25% the size of the continental US, which isn’t insignificant. But that’s far from being about the same size as Africa as the projection depicts, not to mention only ~20% of it is even remotely hospitable.

I rewatched it (several times, actually…) recently after Andor S2 and was just a little underwhelmed after years of remembering it through rose-tinted lenses. That’s not to say it’s a bad movie. Just kinda mid or slightly above average, which puts it far ahead of the rest of the Disney-era Star Wars movies. But next to the quality of Andor there are definitely some things that stick out.
Some critiques I have are pacing, unearned character flip-flopping when convenient, and supporting characters whose own motivations don’t go far beyond supporting the main characters.
It still has a special place in my heart and this isn’t to say other SW media is without flaw. I think Rogue One is a fun movie but its greatness lies in how it sets up the Andor series rather than anything it does by itself.
I definitely think the best way to appreciate it is immediately following the Andor series, which itself is best after a Rogue One watch, at least the first time around. I.e. Rogue One -> Andor -> Rogue One
Holy shit! #6 unlocked some memories that have been hidden away deep in my subconscious for at least 20 years.

They perceive any act in service to anybody but themselves as weakness. People say they’re like this because they’re afraid of being seen as feminine and that may be true for some but I think many others just want to live in a world where they have no accountability and can take whatever they want while being praised by the people around them for the scraps they leave behind.
At this point I feel like it’s totally plausible that the real reason he’s fighting so hard to keep the Epstein files locked away is not because they implicate him in the sex trafficking of underaged children but rather they reveal that he engaged in gay sex with his now political rivals.
As a human being, human beings are the worst. If it wasn’t for our tendency to completely dominate our environments, I don’t know why the world would put up with us.
Oh that actually makes a lot of sense!
